On the first weekend of June the European Board met for the first time. The main aim of the meeting was to consolidate the team. At present the members of the European board are Malte, Juliane, Tabea, Maike and Christina. We are happy to say that the meeting created trust within our team. This gives us the feeling that our meeting will positively affect our future work.
To give you an idea about our discussions we picked three topics:
Generally we talked about volunteerwork and we see the need trying to add a critical reflection to the preparation of volunteers. We think volunteerwork can have positive effects, but only with the right goals and an active self-reflection.
Furthermore we started to gather ideas how we can improve our advertisement. At the moment we have the problem that there are too few volunteers this year to cover the expenses in Ghana. This problem is partly solved by the raise of fees in July but in addition we are going to build up on social media and create a concept for advertisement in schools.
Additionally, the preparation through mentors can be improved by a better communication between the European Board and the mentors. This is why we are going to have a skype conference with all mentors in July.
